How It Works
While some human OTC medications can be safely used for dogs at proper doses, many common drugs are dangerous or fatal to dogs. Never give dogs: ibuprofen (Advil), acetaminophen (Tylenol), naproxen (Aleve), or any medication containing xylitol. Always call your veterinarian before giving any medication. Doses here are general guidelines based on veterinary references, but individual dogs may have conditions or take other medications that create dangerous interactions. When in doubt, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.
