How It Works
The right crate size lets your dog stand up without hitting the top, turn around comfortably, and lie down stretched out. Measure your dog from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail (not the tip), and from the floor to the top of the ears (or head, whichever is taller). Add 2-4 inches to each measurement for the minimum crate dimensions. A crate that is too large defeats the purpose of crate training because dogs are less likely to "hold it" in a space large enough to use one end as a bathroom. For puppies, buy the adult size and use a divider panel to shrink the usable space as they grow.
