How It Works

The most common mistake in bird care is buying a cage that is too small. Birds need enough room to fully extend and flap their wings without touching the sides, and ideally enough length to make short flights. Width matters more than height because birds fly horizontally. Round cages are harmful because they provide no corners for the bird to retreat to (birds feel secure in corners) and the curved bars can trap toes and feathers. Bar spacing is critical for safety: bars too far apart allow small birds to squeeze through or get their heads stuck. Larger parrots (African Greys, Amazons, Cockatoos, Macaws) are lifetime commitments — many live 40-80+ years and require the social and intellectual stimulation equivalent to a toddler for their entire lives.
